If I Could Turn My Vagina Inside-Out It Would Be A Red Dress by Jennifer Laskey •

If I Could Turn My Vagina Inside-
Out It Would Be A Red Dress

My red dress hates
the words: be quiet. It is a neon
breath and wants to be worn like a fire
with big shoes. My red dress doesn't
want earring accessories. No. It will
smile at you and say, "Yes,
I stuck a needle through that."
My red
dress is vinyl plasticene and it won't
let you tear it
in the same
place twice. I won't
let you tear it
in the same place twice.

Out It Would Be A Red Dress

Jennifer Laskey is a writer, who also enjoys making visual art. She recently finished her M.F.A. coursework in Fiction Writing at Columbia University and is writing her first novel. She holds a B.A. degree in Literature, Creative Writing, Visual Arts and Carnival from Bennington College. Her creative work tends to be collage-like, and often culminates in a literal collage of mixed media and writing, drawing from the ancient tradition of combining text with other tactile materials dating back almost a thousand years to Japanese poets and Persian and Turkish book artists. Jen maintains a lifelong obsession with the Carnival tradition. She is also especially interested in women’s issues, hand-to-hand combat, gourmet cooking and dichotomies.

Jennifer is co-founder of the exhibitionists, New York City-based professional women artists, writers, dancers and performers who host monthly salons in pursuit of fresh dialogue about the arts.
