bodylife conversations

An invitation to women to participate in bodylife conversations

Toward creating public conversation spaces, I’m beginning with a series of informal one-on-one conversations with women*. These talks will inspire the next exhibition program and will feed into development of the Bodylife Library Index. It’s an audio-only Skype call that you can do from any quiet place that’s comfortable for you. I’ll record our talk and transcribe it in order to gather up themes that across our bodylives and individual stories. Figure on half an hour to an hour for our call. Because it’s an unstructured conversation, there is nothing to prepare. Everyone’s bodylife experiences are relevant. Promise.

This is about all of us and there is no list of topics that we need to cover. Or know-how you need to have. In fact, the list of topics that will inform the project as it develops will come from your contribution: your stories. If this moves you and you’d like to be part of building an index of female bodylife information, experiences and services, then please sign up.

Bodylife conversation call recording details

The calls are conducted in English, and if it’s not your primary language, and you’d like to do a call, please sign up. The call itself is an internal tool. It’s not a stage where we need to perform well. We can talk about anything that comes up and if we have any difficulty understanding each other’s accents, we’ll just help each other through. I think my New York accent is getting thicker by the day…

The recordings will remain private unless you like the idea of your story in your voice becoming a public part of the project. Privacy, safety and respect are core values here. We’ll go over everything beforehand. Questions are welcome.

Scheduling a bodylife conversation call

If you’re up for a call, you can check out available dates and schedule a 1:1 bodylife conversation here. Available dates and times on any given day will vary. For these calls, you’ll need access to Skype. If you haven’t used it lately, or ever, and need help getting set up with it, I can help you. Email me at alex @ vagina (no spaces) or use the contact form. If you’re not seeing a good time for you, send me a note and let me know what works for you. Reminder that it’s a remote, audio-only call that you can do from any quiet place that is comfortable for you to talk.

This phase of the project is just beginning, and will no doubt change and grow as we learn from each other. I will be blogging about it’s progress, and welcome your feedback and questions.

* By women, I mean to include everyone who is biologically female and/or who identifies as female.
