How things begin sets a tone for how they develop. Our stories become part of us; whether we realize it or not, they inform how we view the world, what we expect of others and of ourselves. They don’t define the all of who we are. Other people’s stories don’t define the all of who they are either.

How things began can shed light on how things are for us now. What we’re open to, scared of, ignorant about, want and need. What you make of your history, beliefs and preferences, or someone else’s, may change. Understanding happens over time. Sharing our stories of first times opens up the opportunity to reconsider the narrative.
